Heinemann: A new benchmark for duty-free retail at Kaunas Airport

The development of the Heinemann Duty Free store at Kaunas Airport was a important step in strengthening Heinemann’s presence in the Baltic region and enhancing the airport’s commercial offering.

Travel Retail Vilnius, the official operator of duty-free stores in Kaunas and Vilnius and Heinemann’s subsidiary in Lithuania, played a central role in this expansion. Heinemann sought a partner capable of transforming high-traffic airport space into a modern, premium retail environment aligned with their updated global design direction.

ITAB Baltic was selected based on its ability to manage the entire delivery process – construction, interiors, custom furniture, lighting, and installation – ensuring consistency, efficiency, and a smooth execution within strict airport deadlines. Heinemann HQ had been responsible for the design project and the layout planning.

The furniture combines durable materials, refined visual detailing, and technical features such as integrated lighting and modular construction, giving Heinemann long-term flexibility in adapting the store to category changes, seasonal campaigns, and future brand updates.

Supporting passenger flow and product visibility

Lighting design further strengthened the store’s identity. The customer required an atmosphere that felt premium, warm, and inviting, supporting both passenger flow and product visibility. ITAB’s lighting team delivered a custom centerpiece and a cohesive illumination concept that strengthens brand impact while meeting airport standards for energy efficiency and maintenance.

Precise coordination, transparent communication and risk-free execution

Given the complexity of airport environments, Heinemann placed high importance on precise coordination, transparent communication, and risk-free execution. ITAB’s project management ensured seamless collaboration with multiple international suppliers, regulatory bodies, and airport stakeholders – providing Heinemann with confidence throughout each project stage.

The final result is a retail space that reinforces Heinemann’s brand identity, elevates the passenger shopping experience, and delivers long-term operational value. The project strengthens the partnership between Heinemann and ITAB Baltic, positioning ITAB as a trusted provider for future retail developments across the region.

Orinta Amelija Ambrazeviciene, CEO at Travel Retail Vilnius said: “With ITAB Baltic, we transformed a high‑traffic space at Kaunas into a warm, premium retail environment – delivered on time, flawlessly coordinated, and ready to flex with our brand’s evolution.”
