The challenge

We have worked with the French filling station chain Total since the 1970s. We have been responsible for the design, production and installation of the interior fixtures in virtually all of Total’s filling stations in the Netherlands.

When it was time for Total to renovate all of its filling stations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central America, a protracted bidding process began, with the result that we were awarded a contract and made preferred supplier for the coming renovation.

Our ability to offer international services and installations was an advantage for Total and we naturally applied our best project management skills to manage and supervise the rollout of Total’s store concept on so many markets.

The solution

By working with value engineering and basic analysis, we developed a modular, flexible interior design system that can be easily adapted to Total’s filling stations around the world. The fixtures meet the safety requirements for materials in that environment, and we converted the concept into a modular version to facilitate installation and adaptation to different store sizes.

Despite this, we succeeded in retaining the look and feel of the original store concept. At the same time, the new standardised but flexible concept is more cost-efficient to produce, transport and store than the original design.

The result

Our ability to manage an international rollout of this size was crucial to its success. By giving us full responsibility for the rollout, Total was able to focus on its core operations. They are satisfied with our service and have renewed our contract as preferred supplier.
